Horticulture Unlimited co-founder Dawn Fried is currently writing a new book titled "The Art of Southwest Landscaping." Her book will include topics such as plant diseases, irrigation, pruning techniques and how to successfully grow citrus trees, roses and other plants in the Southwest. The book will feature full-color photographs and information about landscaping in the Southwest.
The book will also explain how to grow wildflowers, irrigation system installation, landscape design concepts, landscape maintenance and more. This new book includes photographs of trees, shrubs, ground covers and accent plants that can be grown in Arizona, Mexico and regions of the Sonoran Desert. Dawn expects her new book to be published this year.
Arizona Highlands Garden Conference 2010
August 27 & 28 Mazatzal Hotel & Casino Payson, Arizona
The Arizona Highlands Garden Conference is the state's best kept secret for gardening fun! This year's theme is sustainable gardening for homes and communities. The 2-day conference includes sessions addressing sustainable gardening issues including a day of demonstration tours. Learn all about rainwater harvesting, xeriscape gardening, firewise landscaping and square-foot gardening techniques. The conference is open to the public. Pre-registration is required to attend this event.
The conference will be held at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, located on Highway 87 Mile Marker 251 just south of Payson, AZ. The conference begins with an optional Sustainability Demonstration Tour on Friday, August 27th at 9:30am. The garden conference, with key speakers, begins on Saturday, August 28th, with a full breakfast at 7:45am.
