| Description: Chuparosa is a shrub that normally grows to about 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, but under ideal conditions it can grow to 6 feet tall and wide. The medium green leaves are semi-succulent and measure about 1 inch long and 1 inch wide. The tubular flowers are nearly 1.5 inches long. Red is the most common flower color. Justicia californica is very popular in the southwest. Attracts Humming Birds.
Maintenance: Chuparosa is extremely drought tolerant once established and can grow on 10 inches or less of annual rainfall. The foliage will be sparse unless the plant is given periodic water during the growing season. The growth rate is moderate to fast, depending on the amount of supplemental water applied. |
