| Description: Chilean Mesquite grows either singly or multi-trunked. Trunks are twisted with dark, coarse textured bark. Upright grower with a wide crown and flat top. Drought tolerant, and grows fast with water. Grows to 30' tall. Yellow catkin-like flowers in spring. Some Chilean mesquite trees have thorns, some do not.
Maintenance: Plant Chilean Mesquite Tree in full sunlight. Water thoroughly when first planted. Thereafter, water every 7 to 10 days for the first year or two. The Chilean mesquite tree will reach a mature size of 30 feet tall and wide. In low deserts it is semi-evergreen, with lush green compound leaves. Prosopis chilensis is cold hardy to 18° F. Root system can be invasive. |
